Configuring is not a delivery date. They are just trying to get an idea of what all these new reservation holders are gonna want so they can plan supply chain in no way does it indicate they’re going to get their vehicles before the people who have had reservations for years

If that’s the case that’s a bunch of bullshit there’s no reason that I should be waiting 2 1/2 years and somebody else gets to wait four months for their vehicle
I don't disagree with your sentiment, and I'll likely be someone who benefits from their processes. But they have been very clear the entire time that things like your market location, proximity to service, and build configuration all factor into when you'll receive the vehicle. You're not alone at all, in terms of having been waiting for a significant amount of time. But regardless, I can confirm I also had received the email to configure, and the estimate still says 1-4 months... Time will tell.

There are some floating theories that their cash burn rate is still a bit too high (especially with the lower valuation of their stock), so it might help a bit for them to prioritize those of us who are paying the higher prices--just speculation.

I agree just letting you know what I received. Here's what I got
R1T

Congratulations! You’re invited to configure your R1T.

Shortly after you save your selections, we’ll invite you to confirm your order in a follow up email. Once you’ve completed this order confirmation, your pricing will be committed and you’ll be able to take delivery in as little as one to four months.

Rivian is in a lose/lose situation here. Deliver to older price protected customers at less profit or possibly a loss per unit or deliver to later non price protected customers first to support the bottom line and piss off loyal customers waiting for years. Would be nice if they reached out to older deposit holders and offered them the ability to give up their price protection for an earlier delivery but I’m sure that would piss off even more people. I wish Rivian the best and want them to succeed both as a customer and stock holder. They’re in a tough situation.

You could always cancel your old reservation and re-reserve at the higher price if you want to.

I'm relatively new here, but my understanding is that some of the initial pricing reservation holders are waiting for features (e.g. max pack, dual motor) that just aren't coming out for a while. Whereas the people receiving these emails (and I got one for my Nov 2022 R1T reservation, though am still deciding what to do), will be presented a more limited set of configuration options that Rivian is able to deliver in the shorter term. And if the early reservation holders had chosen those options, they could get their trucks sooner. The other option to accelerate delivery is to choose a vehicle out of the R1 Shop.

Am I missing something?
