+/- 2% per day drain is not excessive depending on OP's "app discipline" and whether gear guard was on (regardless of whether motion was detected.....just leaving it on keeps the vehicle "awake" which burns energy. Even a Tesla (which is probably the gold standard of efficiency and battery management will burn about 7% per day with Sentry Mode on (also regardless of whether it senses or records anything).
Maybe I'm missing the "severity" of this problem. I have not experienced the kind of drain posted here. But even so, 80 miles lost in 17 days is not really a huge issue in most peoples lives. When I say most people, I mean pretty much everybody. I can't see that many times that you would leave your car unplugged for 17 days. 80 miles lost can be recovered in 3 hours of charging at a cost of about $2 here in Georgia. Are there many practical, real world workarounds to this problem? Yes. Is it a problem? Maybe. Is it severe? No, not in my world.

Also, I left my Tesla unplugged at an airport for 5 days and it lost about 50 miles of charge. I did have the sentry mode on and it was parked near a walkway. FWIW.
Thank you for both of your reply. I just need validation as this is normal so I don’t have to call Service Center to troubleshoot.

I was on the cruise, I had Rivian mobile app turned off. I only checked twice when I received OTA update notification.

I never owned a Tesla, so I don’t know the metric for sentry mode or Gear Guard. But I am very happy to know Gear Guard is now geo-fenced to turn itself off in the home garage. I really appreciate that feature and all you guys answering for me not to be over-concerned.

I left my etron unplugged in my garage with a SoC of around 90% when I left for the UK for 22 days. I did check the Audi app probably 5-6 times whilst away. When I returned it had 88% SOC remaining. I’ve also left it parked unplugged at the airport in Spring weather for 16 days, and experienced again, a 2% loss in SOC. I would have no issue leaving it unplugged for 2 months as long as I had >50% SOC to begin with. I won’t do that with a Rivian currently, although some vehicles seem to be more afflicted with VD than others.

It went from 81% to 55% in 17 days after I got back from out of country vacation. Outdoor temperature average was mainly in 50F ~ 75F range with Gear Guard was on, but it didn’t trigger any motion sensed video recording. I just learned I can geofenced Gear Guard to default off at home. What else can I do to improve and lessen the drainage situation?

When mine was delivered 2 weeks ago the Guide told me you can put it in “Delivery” mode or “shipping” mode if you go on vacation and it really takes the battery usage down to a minimum. I wish I could remember the exact name of that setting but it’s only available from the vehicle screen and not on the app.

In my opinion this is a problem for Rivian and they need to work to figure it out. It appears they are recognizing it as an issue because the last software update acknowledged a bug in one of the frunk sensors that was causing the car not to sleep as much. When I am going on extended trips whether leaving the car at home or at an airport, I also choose not to plug in my car for safety reasons. I once had my 50amp plug arc while charging. Thankfully I was home and breakers functioned like they should to protect the circuit/rest of the home but it has made me nervous since then. I sold my Tesla Model Y that I had for 2 1/2 years before my R1S. As others mentioned, with Sentry Mode on battery drain was extremely high, typically anywhere from 2-7% a day. When I'd leave my car at the airport for an extended period of time I would turn it off. One week I was really worried about the drain because the average temperature was in the 30s/low 40s, but was surprised to see when I came back that it had only lost 2% after 5 days. Since having the R1S, even with Gear Guard off the car is losing about 2-5% a day. I take a lot of 3 day trips and typically seeing about 10-15% battery loss. It is something that Rivian needs to address. To be fair, when the Model Y first came out they had issues with the battery heater causing phantom drain which took a little over a year to fix. Overall its just battery management and hoping that Rivian continues to make improvements over time.

Maybe it's time to get one of these bad boys for your EV fleet. 🤣

All jokes aside, best of luck getting this phantom drain situation figured out!

We too a long trip up to Lake Tahoe from SOCAL and had a few issues and had to do a soft reboot but offer all the R!T is a great driving vehicle. I do want to ask others if this issue has happed to them.

We got dumped on while skiing at Kirkwood and had really bad white blizzard conditions driving back to South Lake. The defroster STOPPED WORKING AND MY WHOLE WINDSHILED ICED UP. It was very scary cause there was not were to pull over and you could not see a thing along with the white out blowing conditions. We finally pulled over and called RIVIAN Support and they told me to do a soft reset but it still did not help so we tried clearing all the snow in between the windshield wipers and the FRONT TRUNCK . That finally helped . There are vents in front that were covered and caused the system to shut down and give off no hot air.

HAS ANYONE ELSE EXPEREINCED THIS IN A SNOW STORM??? IT WAS SCARY DANGEROUS!!!

We have a 2001 Volvo V70 wagon and it has similar vents as do a lot of other vehicles. Not all but a lot do and when they get blocked by ice or snow it messes with the defrost system.

That is rough. I’ve only had my truck for 3 weeks but it’s been in my garage in Ohio since Saturday morning, not plugged in and with gear guard off and I’ve only lost 2% in 6 days.
