It's pretty remarkable how far the EV industry has come along in the US.

According to a report from the US Department of Energy (https://www.osti.gov/biblio/1506474-assessment-light-duty-plug-electric-vehicles-united-states), since 2012, the United States has produced the majority of plugin electric vehicles sold in the United States.

In 2018, the United States produced 75%, Japan 9%, and Germany 5%, while the remaining countries (Mexico, Austria, South Korea, Canada, Sweden, Netherlands, France, China) produced a combined 11%.

By comparison, "In 2011 and early 2012, most PEVs sold in the United States were assembled in Japan, led by the Nissan Leaf and Toyota Prius Plug-in. By the end of 2012, the Nissan Leaf was being produced in Tennessee and additional models (from Ford and Tesla) were being produced in the United States."
