The new price for the charger is $750 when configured with the vehicle. That coupled with so many that are arriving after the vehicle, people are trying to be proactive and maybe save a few dollars.I am curious why so many of these are for sale now? Are people trying to make the spread of the price increase? Did Rivian ship some chargers before trucks were delivered and people back out of the deal?
That may explain why someone would buy third-party, but not why someone would sell — unless you’re also saying they’re trying to profit on the spread? The new price for the charger is $750 when configured with the vehicle. IDK, could be they find the portable works just fine for them, or bought the home charger but can't install it for some reason, or they don't really need to charge at home, or they already have a charger from another ev and they don't really need it.... There are lots of potential reasons. That may explain why someone would buy third-party, but not why someone would sell — unless you’re also saying they’re trying to profit on the spread?
So on the flip side, you're the one trying to get it for less than the original purchaser paid for it? $500 in the gear shop, + $50 in taxes, + shipping cost for sending it to you totals at least $600 just to cover the original purchaser's cost.I have offered the $500
I agree, the same thing is happening with the truck itself. You see them for sale for $110k+. It's just the market and what it is right now. If someone decides they don't need the wall charger after all, what's wrong with them selling it for what the currentl market price is?I don't get it. This is the "Want to Buy, Sell, Trade" forum. Why is everyone who tries to sell something here assumed to be evil? If you don't want it, don't buy it - it's as simple as that.

Oh and if you buy it from a third party like this, you intend on sending your state a check for the use tax, right? Or are you trying to get away with that too and pay less than it would cost you to buy direct from Rivian?
Again, this is the "Want to Buy, Sell, Trade" forum. If the original owner doesn't want to sell it to you for your lowball bid, then they don't have to - it's as simple as that. There is no need to insult the poster at the same time you make your lowball offer.
What’s the problem with profiting in the times of inflation? Are you against capitalism? There is no harm in selling for more than one bought. The market dictates the price. You don’t like the price, move along. That may explain why someone would buy third-party, but not why someone would sell — unless you’re also saying they’re trying to profit on the spread?
My question was WHY? So it seems the consensus is "scalping". Got it.What’s the problem with profiting in the times of inflation? Are you against capitalism? There is no harm in selling for more than one bought. The market dictates the price. You don’t like the price, move along.
Tesla is still selling their 48A Wall Connector for $400. Honestly, for that price, it's probably the best deal.I think the "market rate" is even higher than the original offer - competitors for a 48A hardwired charger are ~$700 + tax.
What’s wrong with that? Are you a communist? In case you didn’t know, in a capitalist society anyone can attempt selling anything he/she owns for ANY price he/she wants. It’s not a crime, and neither it’s unethical as long as you subscribe to the ethics of capitalism. If you are a follower of communism, that’s a different story. In this case, an attempt to sell something above the price it was bought is highly unethical (based on the ethics that are not very popular in a capitalist society).Well, this is the 2nd Rivian charger that I have offered the $500. One was in California this once from Florida. Neither one has responded back to my PMs offering up the $500 price. I am betting that people are just trying to bilk unexpecting people who didn't get a charger post March 1st increase.
You'd still have to buy a J1772 adaptor to be able to plug it into a non-Tesla and you are basically back up to the same priceTesla is still selling their 48A Wall Connector for $400. Honestly, for that price, it's probably the best deal.

Sorry, sold.very interested in buying it
Just because you pre-ordered before March 1st doesn't mean anything. I'm not scalping anyone.I'll take it for the $500 as that is the current price for those of us who ordered our vehicle before the March 1 increase. There was a similar person on these forums posting an over-pried charger. I'll pay the shipping costs. Your choice. Cash in hand now or take a chance scalping this to an unsuspecting sot that has to pay the inflated price of the charger post March 1st. PM me if interested in my offer.
Thanks, definitely not selling to ERivTruck.I think the "market rate" is even higher than the original offer - competitors for a 48A hardwired charger are ~$700 + tax. But my point was that $650 seems fairly close to just covering the sellers sunk cost - "scalping" is pretty harsh.
Yes, there are always caveats for those wanting to buy used. There's the whole federal/state/local tax rebate/credit issue, which you probably can't take if you buy your charger used. The local credit saved me $400 on the charger, so it made a lot of sense for me to buy new.
But it took me 4 months last year to buy the charger I wanted because of supply chain issues, and Rivian is also suffering availability problems. Don't even get me started on how long it took to schedule an electrician for the install who would do it for a reasonable price. This offer could look quite attractive to someone who got their truck and needs a charger but has to wait for a month before their Rivian charger arrives. And if you go off and install a different charger in the meantime then perhaps when your Rivian charger comes you don't need it any more.
I'm not endorsing the offer, I'm just saying it's just an offer and if you don't want it don't buy it. If it turns out to be unreasonable, then no oivTruckne will buy it. No need to impugn the motives of the seller.
I couldn't be more offended if you tried. I am a factual person, and it makes ZERO sense to me that people would like to sell there purchased Rivian chargers on this forum for a 23% markup. U have already ordered a $500 charger with my truck. If you are new to the EV game, this would be needed for your home anyway. Someone, people who bought these chargers early on did NOT pay the $650 increased price. I get it, they want to make a profit. Then sell it on Etsy or Ebay. Here most of us are in the know and would not accept getting this charger at an increased price. What’s wrong with that? Are you a communist?
