Hi All,

Just came across this forum and am glad to see a community starting to build. I've placed my deposit and can't wait for the first units to start rolling off the line.

Looking forward to lots of useful information, news, and commentary here!

Cheers,

Tim

Welcome to the forum @oak202
How much was your deposit and did they give you a welcome package or anything special?

$1000 USD, no welcome package (which seems a bit odd), but we did receive a nice rendering with a letter a couple months after the fact.

If you go on their website, there is a "pre-order" button down on the right, after you select a model.

Glad to have you aboard @oak202! Hopefully they'll send you more cool stuff as they get closer to launch date and everything goes smooth for you.

Which Rivian are you looking to get? the R1T or the R1S?

@oak202
that's indeed odd given the fact the typical welcome package stuff is the EASIEST to get done. what does it take to outsource apparel, documents, and even a scale model of our cars. Not much.

Agreed . . . I have been rather disappointed in the lack of Marketing to people that put down a deposit, but I try to convince myself it's because they are focusing on getting it done LOL!

I went with the truck . . . been keeping my eye on these "show & tell" promo/driving events they have been hosting. Hopefully they'll have one close enough to me that I can justify attending. I'd really like to get behind the wheel, and offroad, to put it through some paces :)

Good choice.
I'm likely to go for the truck as well but hoping to get a tonneau cover to make it SUV-like when required. Enclosed cargo space does come in handy at times.

My biggest concern with those is how theft proof they'll be. I know F-150 and Silverado guys who had break-in's.

The fact that the cover extends and retracts from the back of the truck should help a lot with security.
How theft-proof it is still concerns me. We'll never know till someone assesses it or breaks in.

Yeah that very true, I hope it's a big thing that gets covered as they start production.
FORTUNATELY if its a thieves dream, the gear tunnel can be our back up.

I'd like an update for this! Is it become a target of stealers and you had to install bollards to protect your brand new car?
Well here's my 2 cents.
I was one of the very first to place my order, early on (East Coast) Tuesday November 27th, 2018. Back then, I did not have to specify which model I wanted, the R1T or the R1S. I was also told the price would be around $60,000. That soon became "$60,000 Before government rebate of $7,500". So supposedly $67,500 which Rivian conveniently rounded to $69,000.
Production schedule was the same for both R1T and R1S, end of 2019.
After months of hearing nothing from Rivian, they finally said production will start early 2020, which soon became late 2020. Then it was to be early 2021. Then the Corona virus hit and Rivian conveniently used it as an excuse to push production out to June 2021. So a lot of promises so far.
I have been asking for color choices and options for over a year now and I am still sure when we can specify what we want.
Meanwhile, not happy with all the delays, I ordered me a Performance Tesla Y, requiring a $2000 deposit. (Nov 13th, 2019)) I am still waiting on it as well.
Then I saw the Cybertruck and thought it was a joke! It has since grown on me and for a $100 deposit, I thought why not. So I also have a Cybertruck on order, thinking it might get here before the Rivian.
I currently drive a fast (400hp) 2018 Audi S3 and my wife drives a 2018 SQ5. When I get my Tesla my kid will get the S3 and I'll drive the Tesla.
I am a close follower of all electric vehicles out there and could not resist to place an order for a Tesla Semi truck in Jan 2020! Yikes, a $20,000 deposit for that one. Hoping to be one of the first.
So I was in doubt as to whether I should keep my Rivian order. That has changed now and I cannot wait for it. June/July 2021 works out great for me, I will sell the Audi, give my Tesla to the wife will be happy with my Rivian. A short while after my order I mentioned that I prefer the SUV but really will take whichever one I can get first. I think they've assigned me the R1S, SUV.
Hopefully I will still be given the option between the two.

Update: After reading some of the other blogs, I see Rivian has pulled another fast one on us. They are now saying the $69,000 price is AFTER the $7500 rebate from the Government! So they will start at $76,500, not the original $60,000 we were told. Nice fat increase doing nothing extra.

Where did you find that @Victerry?
I don't quite remember, it was somewhere here in this forum. I'm sure Rivian's website might say something, I'm curious now myself.

The only thing I can find is this article back in January that said Rivian is expecting a slightly lower starting price.

From the very first moment I saw the 69000 for the smallest bat pack r1t .
Hope you are mistaking and they aren't playing the game . But I have to say , I saw in a number of places that the price was expected to come down , not up , especially after tesla track debut.
And worth to mention, when I placed my order for r1t it did mention something about little something special for me at the main time but so far haven't seen anything.
I guess time will show.
