Has there been a final decision on which side of the vehicle the charge port is located on the R1S? I am planning a new garage layout and I have to inform the electrician of the location of my Level 2 charger.

Not sure, but if you can't get the answer in time you can have the electrician rough-in a conduit on both sides, and then wait to pull wire and install the charger until you know for sure. Roughing in conduit in an additional location is a minor cost in the grand scheme of things.

I emailed Rivian in June with the same question. Here is their response: "As far as the charge port, it will be located on the passenger side right below/behind the headlight! Using a J1772 connector and a 40 A circuit, you can expect a full charge every morning when you plug your vehicle in before bed."

There is no location of the plug receptacle that will satisfy everyone. Left side, Right side, front, or rear. All positions limit access to the receptacle at one time or another. An automated receiver on the underside of the vehicle would accommodate everyone, if such a connection were available. The connection must be conductive. Just saying

Interesting the response in #3 is complete opposite of what I hear today. I just chatted with a Rivian rep and was told some of the preproduction units had it on Front Right but the production version will be on Front Left (drivers Side) and will support a Nema 14/15 plug.

Interesting.
I really hope its on the drivers side as that seems to be the most logical choice. VW Group does it with the e-tron SUV and it makes a lot of sense (to me).
What would everyone here prefer? Driver or passenger side?

I prefer passenger side, due to my existing charger location. Better yet would be to offer a port on BOTH sides.

Drivers side would work best for me, but honestly I could accommodate either side. The residential level 2 EVSEs I’ve looked at had 20-25 ft charging cables, so I can easily reach either side of the truck.

I emailed this ??? on 23 Nov 20 and here's their response:

Great question about the charge door, you will charge your vehicle on the drivers side just like you presumed.
