I'm putting this out here to see if anyone else has this issue - the left and right vent direction controls don't work until one of the center vents is turned on. More detail:
1) Turn on the climate system. In my case, the outside temps are still cold, so it turns on the heat. The windshield, left and right dash and floor board vents begin blowing air. The center vents do not turn on, so no air from them.
2) The left and right vents are blowing a little air, defaulting toward the side window, mostly aimed at the side view mirror position.
3) I change the vent direction for the left or right vent from the center console. The airflow for the vent does not change.
4) I turn on the center left vent so it starts blowing air. The left and right vents begin blowing more air and the direction for those vents is changed to match the setting on the center console.
5) From that point, I am able to control the left and right vent airflow as expected.
6) Turn off the climate system and got to step 1 above as it's a repeatable problem.
I've opened a ticket with Rivian, sent a video as well as created 3 different diagnostic dumps for them to look at throughout the process - they've been in touch and are looking into it. It's a subtle issue but something I noticed over the couple of months I've owned my R1T. It's not a huge issue at all, but it would seem that its a software issue. I was curious if anyone else was experiencing this and if its a systemic software (assuming software right now) problem or one isolated to my truck.
I love my R1T, best vehicle I have ever owned. Still learning and getting used to all the things that come with an EV, and would not change my decision if I had it to do all over again!
