I don't know if you're supposed to get an email to let you know, but I just happened to log into my account and on my dashboard, I saw a new calendar icon with an orange alert symbol. So I clicked on it and it said I'm being invited to a first mile mobile drive event. I wouldn't have known unless I logged in.

So if you're in SD area, you may want to log into your account and just check to see if it's available for you too. I scheduled mine for this Saturday.

If you have an open spot for a “guest” on your first mile that you can spare, I’d appreciate it! Can message me at [email protected], unfortunately Rivian doesn’t know why I wasn’t included :(
Bummer, that's odd, I would have thought they show it to everyone in the area while they're here. Sorry, but my wife and brother are already entered in as my two other guests (only 3 adults max allowed in total for the drive)!

Yah bummer. Been seeing a lot more pop up in the area, so hope to have the chance sooner than later!

let me know how it goes! Should get a good ride with how bad our roads are down here 😂

Haha, you're right about the bad roads. The specialist was great, really patient, answered all my questions, let all 3 of us test drive, push it, etc.

Since we already have a Tesla, the truck so so similar in a lot of aspects that would normally confuse a first time EV driver, or specifically items unique to Tesla (and now Rivian). For us all that made sense and was easy to figure out (vents, steering/mirror positions, brake pedal to turn on, shifter stalk, etc).

The truck looked a lot bigger than I was expecting. I guess I pictured the older smaller Tacoma's as comparison, but I forget the newest Tacoma's are not that small anymore either. We test fitted parking the truck into our garage and it definitely is significantly larger than the Model 3. But thankfully it still fits just fine...just a little tighter in the garage.

A few things which the specialist wasn't sure on and hopefully will be a software update is to limit how much the frunk opens. We will be backing the truck into the garage and there didn't seem to be a way to set a limit on that. And without that, if we open it by mistake while the garage door is open, it will smash into the door above.

Also they don't have location based ride hight yet, which will be nice to have for me when pulling into the garage and having surfboard on top. If the truck doesn't lower to the lowest setting, it will smash into the garage opening. I don't even know if it will clear with it lowered, but this one didn't have racks to even test it out.

Everything else was just what you expect from watching all the youtube videos. It drives amazing, it's super quick - feels just as fast as my Model 3 Performance....but just in a much larger/heavier vehicle. It's a beast! I liked the different driving modes which changes the ride height and stiffness. I forget the exact name but the performance/sport mode makes the suspension a bit too harsh but that's probably what you'd want if you're really driving it hard...I just don't see myself doing that in a truck. lol

All in all, it was an awesome time to get to drive it...but the heart ache to see it leave...knowing it will be a long time before I get to have one delivered. :p

Thanks! I got my alert, scheduled for this Saturday.
How did you like the test drive? We really loved it, and confirmed it fits in our garage.

I don't know if the truck had issues but my wife had issues reaching the pedals comfortably no matter how much the Rivian employee tried to adjust it. She's 5'4" so it's not like she's super short. I am hoping it was just a problem with that seat not adjusting properly. We will find out once we get ours in a few months.

Test drive was great. Truck looks and feels great. I’m 6’2” and I Felt great in the front and the back. Definitely need some sort of UV cover on the roof though, that can warm up quickly. Power tonneau is a little far fetched, don’t know if they will figure out a really reliable solution.
My gf drove it, and absolutely fell in love haha. Also, quality is superior to Tesla I’ve noticed. Just playing the waiting game for the Max pack at this point.

No, but the guide said my config is a common one being built so it was able to be fulfilled faster. I have ordered white with black interior, no spare, no under body shield, racks, charger, and all weather mats. I never got invited to the R1 shop.

The guide said it’s in transit already and my vin is in 85xx range so I wonder if it was a cancelled order of someone else? I’ve seen people getting vins in 9xxx range already.

In any case I guess I will see how quickly it gets here if it’s already in transit.
