If I get the Lightning (I might be in the first wave), it would be a Lariat ER. No sense getting the XLT (plus here in the desert I want ventilated seats).
The funny thing is the spec'd Ford I want is 79k and the spec'd Rivian is 79k.
So price doesn't help (my dealer is following MSRP...supposedly. We will see).
I'm still torn. Plusses and minuses for both trucks. Ford I might get a bit sooner if I'm really wave one? But I don't mind waiting if I really and truly want the Rivian.
Sigh...I guess it is a good life if I'm stressing over which hella expensive truck to buy vs other issues.
Rivian: Love the size. Ford is a bit big, but ok.
Love the adjustable air suspension
I kinda prefer the cylinder battery's vs pouch. Just seems to have a better history?
Direct sales is cool.
Ford: Love the Frunk (i've said it before, I'll say it again: Rivian 2.0 needs this. And it's not stealing, the VW bug had this design in the 60's).
While I prefer direct sales, I like that there are Ford service centers close by (not Rivian's fault, but NM law won't allow Rivian to have service or sales here).
While I believe Rivian is here to stay, it is still a bit of a risk compared to Ford selling F-150s.
(I bought an electric motorcycle in 2013 and the company went out of business a few years later and now I have no service for my beautiful, but unusual motorcycle.)
I am hoping I can build and price my Ford tomorrow and see if the dealer changed their minds and add ADM and such. That would be a deal breaker. But if at MSRP, well I will have a big decision to make.
