It's interesting to see the sales comparison between the R1T and the Hummer in Q3, 4,400 R1Ts to 411 Hummers.

Competitive Sales Comparison (USA)
Hummer EV Pickup sales during the third quarter of 2022 placed the off-road supertruck behind its primary competitor in the off-road-focused electric pickup truck space. The Rivian R1T sold 4,400 units, considerably more than the GMC Hummer EV Pickup. Both the Hummer EV Pickup and R1T were not available during Q3 2021.

Those numbers don't even make sense.

From the Rivian Q3 2022 earnings report:

Rivian Automotive, Inc. (NASDAQ: RIVN) today announced production totals for the quarter ending September 30, 2022. The company produced 7,363 vehicles at its manufacturing facility in Normal, Illinois and delivered 6,584 vehicles during the same period.

Rivian was delivering R1Ts with VINs > 12,000 by the end of Q3, which means YTD at end of Q3 was >11,000, not the 8,000 stated above.

The exact breakdown of R1T vs R1S vs EDV has never been officially stated, so that "gmauthority" is just a guess, but we do know that R1S deliveries to customers didn't begin until September, which was at the end of Q3. Likewise, EDV deliveries were limited - we know from official press releases that "more than 1000" were in service with Amazon at the end of October. Also, "gmauthority" doesn't define what "sold" means for this purpose - that's a weird intermediate between "produced" and "delivered", which are the two numbers that Rivian actually reports.

They make sense for the Hummer as they currently have a STOP SALE at the plant until they can figure out, redesign, and build a sealed battery unit that does not allow for water intrusion.

Soooooo, all those nay-sayers that said GM and Ford should be able to produce thousands of EVs right from the get-go clearly don't understand how difficult, costly, and painstakingly slow developing, testing, and manufacturing a completely new vehicle can be!
