One way to increase covered storage volume would be to add a cap, topper, or camper shell over the bed of the R1T. This would allow objects taller than 17.1 inches (up to the roof of the cap) to to fit in the bed and be protected from the elements. Ideally, the cover should attach to the Rivian rack mounting system on the bed so it would be easily removable.

I currently use an ARE cap with a glass walk-in door. Such a cap would require the removal of the tailgate. An advantage of this cap is that the open hatch acts as a sun shade and a rain shield which is an advantage when loading packages into the bed.

About two years ago Rivian filed a patent for a system of various modules though no word on when or if they will bring it to market. Check out this thread Modular box systems
