How long are you going to keep your Rivian?

For me it will be before the 5 years or 60k miles is up.

Maybe sooner, depends on what shiny new objects come out.

How about everybody else?

My opinion hasn’t changed since I took delivery last year. The R1T has the potential to be the best vehicle on the road for my needs…. But actually living with it, day to day, is incredibly frustrating. Rivian, as a company, is frustrating. Fit and finish is terrible. Tons of issues. Rattles. Clunks. Software issues. Every OTA introduces regressions. Service is THE WORST. Every visit is booked out weeks/months, they keep the vehicle for weeks, no loaners, and it gets returned with some issues not fixed (but they claim they did), other issues not fixed with them refusing to do so (within spec or some other b.s.), and every time it is returned with NEW issues including physical damage.

Most recently I went in for my driveline noise (significant tick/tock/clunk on acceleration/deceleration)…. We have evidence on the forums that Rivian is aware of the issue and has even released a tech bulletin for it…. I took a test ride with their senior tech and they immediately acknowledged the sounds and said “oh yeah, that’s bad.” The vehicle is subsequently given back to me with no improvements and SC says they can’t fix it. If it fails then they’ll warranty it, but they say they can’t make the noise any better. I have literally had neighbors approach me in my driveway and ask what’s wrong with the truck because they hear it as I come/go. It’s embarrassing.

Rivian cares more about shipping new units than they do about taking care of existing customers or their long term reputation.
I have the same click/tick/tock issues that seems to be reported with relative frequency in the Rivian forums and groups but customer service tells me its normal. They will look at it if I want to volunteer to drive 2.5 hours to the nearest service center but will not acknowledge the issue even though I sent them a video of it. I love the R1T but would not recommend a Rivian to anyone that does not live near a service center as I think they use the distance as leverage to avoid having to deal with issues.
I will hopefully drive my next vehicle for the next 15 years. We have had our highlander for 13 years and could keep it another 5. Debating on switching as I'm writing this.
I love my R1T. I’ve had it for a year, driven 12k essentially problem free miles, my Rivian rep is responsive, service has been good (although I’ve only had one issue requiring keeping my truck for a few days) and communication and tech support has been great. I’m thrilled to be on the leading edge of something truly unique and exciting and am more than willing to tolerate a few mysteries and shoulder shrugs along the way. Sometimes the truck has a mind of its own or doesn’t do something I think it should, but then I spend a day crawling over rocksbeing shot into hyperspace or answering question from fascinated people and any frustration evaporates.
People love to complain. Much more than they are likely to report positive experiences. I think this amazing vehicle/company has an incredible future and the R1T is loved by the vast majority of those who are lucky enough to wake up to one in their driveway. They’re just too busy out having fun to sit home and write ranting reviews. KW
All I can say is Amen. Been great in every way!
I love this truck!
I figure when I reach 600,000 miles I will have saved about about enough on gas to buy another one. The problem is at my current pace that will be about 2050 and I'll be dead.
This is of course tongue-in-cheek.

I feel the same way, as with any startup there can be issues very similar to buying my first Tesla in 2012. I’m willing to deal with issues and so far no problems with my R1T delivered in February. Plus you never know if these companies with survive. Just think what it takes to start a new car company from scratch especially if it is all electric.

I'm 82. Plan for it to be my last truck. So maybe 18 years.

Personally for me I will sacrifice some of the things the R1T cannot do for several reasons. Not having to support the fossil fuel industry and helping the environment. If there is something I need to use a truck for and the Rivian cannot do it I can always rent one.

It was at this point that I realized that the rivian probably wasn’t going to do it for me. I’ve had my eye on the ram rev already anyway, but I feel like I’m going to have the rest of my life to explore electric vehicles. Gas and diesel vehicles, however are on the way out..
So I decided that I’m going to buy my last diesel vehicle before everything truly transitions over to electric. I ordered a 2023 F350, and plan to trade the Rivian on that.
I had been telling myself for years (I was too early) that this car would be my last ICE but only now is that coming into view. Have a Tesla Model 3 for around town but for fun in the mountains I am going to replace my Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk with the R1T…hoping it can do deep sierra snow all winter otherwise Ill be back to ICE or have to switch gears to one of the other EV pickups coming over the next year. Otherwise hoping to keep my soon to obtain R1T for a couple of years.

What a great post! I have nothing to add. You have summed this experience up perfectly! We are running 8 R1T’s at my business. Everyone lovrs them. We have logged over 100k miles on them basically trouble free! I have owned the following brands at my business, Ford, Chevy, International, Mack, Kenworth, Frieghtliner, Isuzu, Mercedes. i have owned the following sports cars in my private life, Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette C8. None of the vehicles I have listed above even come close to the Rivian R1T in awesomeness!!

10 to 15 Years or 200k miles
These 21s are orpheon wheels.. going back to the bronco. So many more options for off-road wheels

That seems like you're throwing out the baby with the bath water. I'm confident that more 21" tire options will be forthcoming (maybe even 5th-coming :ROFLMAO: )

I’d say at least 38, but by that time they can clone you and upload to a 13-year-old clone.
