Same here, hoping my recent reservation is far enough in the queue that by the time my configuration comes up Rivian will have expanded their production to support the Max Pack in the R1S, otherwise I’ll tell my rep. that I’ll just switch to the next max pack R1T (has anyone else done this?).
I plan on taking this up to the high-country often & sparse-populated areas, plus, a max-pack (400+mi) at 70% charge (which Rivian recommends) is ~270mi., which I want for day-to-day, week-to-week use.
Also, I’m intending to drive this thing into the ground for a while…
Does anyone have any intel/context into the max pack timeline for the R1S?
A couple of years back, before the configurator went live, the Max was listed as being an option for both the R1S and R1T. At the time the configurator opened for orders, the Max option was only offered on the R1T and Rivian subsequently quietly changed their website to reflect that.
There has been nothing about an R1S Max on the Rivian website for at least two years, and it appears that there are no longer any plans to offer it. From what I can gather, Rivian is working on a higher capacity battery option for the R1S but how much greater than the 135kWh LR pack that will be is not known. This isn't really speculation; if you contact CS you can confirm most of the above.
Even though an SUV is a much better fit for my situation, I'm one of those who also needs the higher capacity battery, so really had no choice but to configure an R1T Max. My delivery window per the Dec '21 email was 1H2023 but Rivian's website now says that we will see updated delivery information on our accounts this month. That's good news however, at this juncture, we don't know if it means that we will see deliveries pulled to the left or right or if they will be unchanged. .
