I am in central Virginia, and placed my deposit on an R1S in October 2021. My delivery window is first half of 2023.

I was sure I was going to get a Tesla until I saw the Rivian. Totally blew me away! I still like Teslas, and my mind might change again, but I am excited about getting a Rivian for now.

What sold me on the Rivian?

Power
I love the interior (Never that impressed by the Tesla, that was all about the tech)
I can afford a new one (I just can't bring myself to pay >$100k for a new Model S even if I can afford it)!
SUV - I like the size
Looks - The grille has grown on me. It went from "Hmmm" to "I like it." Not quite loving it yet, though.

Hi All,

My wife and I have been looking VERY closely at placing an order for an R1S Adventure Package, or equivalent. While I like the R1T, I already have a pickup, which I drive from Massachusetts to Florida every spring and fall. I am also not a fan of the electric tonneau cover, which I expect will be a maintenance nightmare. I am surprised that Rivian has not produced more of the SUV, and benefitted from real customer experience with both vehicles. The SUV seems to be a less complex package (no gear tunnel, no camp kitchen, no electric tonneau cover, etc.), and therefore an easier win for Rivian, than the pickup.

Our enthusiasm has spread to my sister, who is now also interested in placing an order with Rivian. If Rivian could deliver within a year, they would have our orders. However, I realize that battery technology is continuing to evolve and I know that Rivian will be on the forefront of implementing the new technology. I expect that the new factory in Georgia will help both with decreasing the lead time for orders, and the improvements in battery technology.

We will be hanging on to our 2001 Toyota Avalon, and 2009 Tacoma a while longer (BOTH vehicles run 100%) and watching the Rivian product line evolve and the delivery times decrease.

I hope to learn more from your experience, and the forum!

Hey everyone, late entrant to the Rivian party - booked a R1S on Christmas day in 2021. It has been an exciting few months and can't wait for the time I get to configure my vehicle for real. Until then I go past the office space supposedly leased by Rivian in Everett, MA, every once in a while. For people interested it looks exactly like it is does in Maps - totally barren and no hint of Rivian

Hello, I’m local to you (as you can see in my name) and we have a fairly local guy with an R1T and he’s out and about showing it regularly r1t_of_ma
I preordered just before you (nov 2021) and will post when my truck gets closer. Someone near me has a preorder for an R1S near me and I’m waiting to see when they post a progress report.
