I thought there has to be a VIN number to register the vehicle. Maybe he can put it on the front of his truck when it arrives! COOL!

I assume they got the tag for their current vehicle (not a Rivian) and will transfer it to their Rivian, once they get it.

In Delaware I am able to request and reserve a "vanity" tag for 6months. You can do so even without a car or truck, but your reservation for the tag must be renewed and in your name when you go to complete registration/title the new car or truck.

I ordered the R1T truck.

Correct. I purchased the tag for my current vehicle. When my R1T arrives I can transfer the RIVIAN tag from my old vehicle (which I expect to donate to a charity) to the R1T.

Delaware’s personal plates are unique as you keep your original plate. You can display either plate but you must keep the original in the vehicle. That being said I actually have the Rivian plate for DE registered to my Tundra. It’s just not displayed yet.

I was able to snag R1T RIV on the California legacy style plate...plate should be here in 8-12 weeks, I supposedly have a May/June delivery window for my R1T so let's see which gets here first!
