Anyone have more details of when a Max pack or similar will be offered with R1S?

Note this statement on InsideEVs Dec 28, 2021 - "The R1S is likely to get something similar to the Max pack, but Rivian is reportedly doing some re-engineering to make such a large battery fit in the SUV without ditching the third-row seats."

If true - and depending on amount of "re-engineering" this may suggest pushing delivery well into 2023 or beyond for RIS with pack larger than 135kwh??

Would really like a bit more range in R1S to tow something like Airstream Basecamp/20.

Does anyone have any experiences with improved range in efficiency mode where only 2 motors are used?

No new word but based on the delivery updates they sent out yesterday there are no max pack R1Ts being delivered until 2023. I would assume 2nd half of 2022 they will probably provide updates to what the R1S max pack will look like with deliveries sometime in late 2023.

That's super-old speculation - the same thing has been said multiple times in this and other forums for maybe the past year. That's some lazy "journalism", just quoting things they found on the internet and attributing them as "reportedly".

Regardless, R1S Max Pack was never promised to be released by this point in time - you can't even pre-order one. So there hasn't been a "delay" - that model just isn't an option yet, it's something they intend to offer in the future. The only thing Rivian has said is that they will make an announcement in Jan 22 about the R1S Max Pack, but we don't know what that announcement will be.

Once the R1S Max Pack is available, whenever that may be, it's going to take a good long while for them to be delivered. Rivian first has to deliver all the LE models, then there are all the other pre-order holders who are waiting in line before you. Not even the optimists are saying that all the existing orders will be fulfilled in 2022. If this is a configuration you're interested in, I suggest placing your pre-order now, watching the forums, and configuring your Max Pack as soon as that configuration becomes available. Waiting to place your pre-order will just place you further down the list.

Rivian has a "towing mode" that is certainly less efficient that the 2-wheel eco mode. I'm not sure how configurable the towing mode is, but I would be surprised if the vehicle allowed you to tow in eco mode.
