Wonder if the dual motor will increase or decrease the current 7,500 tow rating for the R1S.

I'm hoping Rivian will let me take some money off my price protected quad motor by going to dual motor. Lower the weight, increase the range and keep the 7,500 tow.

I wouldn't think there will be any change to the towing capacity, and only a very small increase to range.

My understanding is that the tow rating of 7,500 lbs for the R1S vs the identically powered R1T rating of 11,000 lbs is because of the smaller frame/wheelbase of the SUV. Assuming that's true, the dual-motor on the same platform should have the same 7,500 lb rating.

As far as increased range, it doesn't look like there is much in the way of efficiency gain going from quad to dual motor. The projected range for the dual motor per the Rivian website is only very slightly greater than the quad, on the order of less than 2% if memory serves.

This is also a great demonstration of how adequate the approach and departure angles are.
