Rivian R1T owner is documenting his ownership

If you're on Instagram I highlight recommend following this guy. He's the first, if not one of the first R1T owners I've seen and he's been posting a lot about his time with the R1T

Hopefully he's a member of the forum so he can provide more insight about the truck.

He is still an insider or an employee though, correct? Looks like he had a Rivian shirt and badge, and was working Rivian events in 2019. Would love to find an everyday, non-Rivian, unbiased actual customer review / feedback / etc.

I view this as more marketing than anything else; the guy's an insider. Are there any non-employee deliveries to date? Any signs of them - semis on the road, vehicles in driveways without manufacturer plates, anything at all? Any recent guide contacts with actual, firm October delivery dates?

I met this guy, a Rivian employee (at the time), at the Normal event back in Oct 2019. If his Instagram posts reveal something new about the "production" vehicle, not sure if it matters if he's an employee or not. (E.g. the Rivian logo projected on the ground.) Now if his comments have "opinions" that's a whole different story, assuming he's still a Rivian employee. Take it for what it's worth.

I really hope there aren't any surprises. The lack of LiDAR hardware from the original R1T left me a bit disappointed but at least we still get enough autonomous driving features according to the current list, and future roll out.

Agreed, as long as we keep that in mind then I don't see a problem. It's just good to see people actually using it as a daily vehicle now.

I was in Manhattan on Monday... and was thinking to myself it will be many, many years before any AI will be able to cope with the shenanigans I witnessed going on there. At one point we were so close to the guy next to us I could see the brand of wristwatch he was wearing and read the text message on his phone from inside our Uber. Between potholes, construction, double parking, crazies off their meds just walking out in front of you without looking, etc..any current AI would have a nervous breakdown trying to drive safely on those roads.

Totally agree. I was in Vienna not too long ago during some rain on the seven way cobblestone intersection with a tram coming through .. at night. Only the twisted human mind can make sense of that sort of thing, computers will not grasp it (yet).

Same in many cities in Europe, etc... Years ago we went to Cairo, you would not believe the mind boggling mix of cars, trucks, buses, scooters, bicycles and even donkey drawn carts traversing traffic cop controlled free-flowing circles and intersections. No way any current AI could safely handle that without becoming a safety hazard itself.

I don't know if he's another Rivian employee or not but looks like another R1T owner.

I need my truck now please. Should I start looking at an ICE truck because I can't wait much longer! I ordered mine on Nov 29th, 2018, almost 3 years ago. I have heard nothing from Rivian. Should we be worried? Rivian's debt keeps climbing by the day, must be close to $10.5 Billion by now. Wonder what the IPO is doing? They're hoping for investors to part with their money to invest in a company with that much debt and no income yet. Their production won't catch up and they will not make a profit for multiple years, easily 5 to 7 years.
They certainly need another factory, starting tomorrow, they won't have it finished for 5 years!
Why would anyone put their money into a company like Rivian.
They owe so much already, taking my money elsewhere, can you say TSLA!

Doubtful.

I think LIDAR was removed for cost, and because their software is pretty far behind (as demonstrated in the Breckinridge event) and it’ll be a long time before they can actually benefit from LIDAR over the other sensors they have. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see the LIDAR added back in future models, but why spend the $$$ for the hardware now, when it isn’t going to be utilized for a long time. Just my opinion.

Makes sense to me. And if it keeps costs down while increasing production ramp rate, I'm all for it.
