There's a manual cover?Does anyone know yet how the manual cover will open and close?
Explore trim gets manual cover. There's a manual cover?
I believe so, on the list of upgrade items with the Adventure package is a "powered tonneau cover" so I think that means explore package people would have a non-powered version of this and I'm curious if anyone has seen what that is like. There's a manual cover?
It's begging for me to say 'manually' but seems like low hanging fruit....ah, I did it.Does anyone know yet how the manual cover will open and close?
CS told me it was 4 panels that slide into the track that the power cover slides on. The rear panel has a latch that keeps them all in place. This is a bit disappointing as I was hoping you would only have to remove the rear panel or two if hauling something tall and shallow, but this makes it seem that you would have to do all or nothing, or the remaining panels would be sliding around. The panels can be stored in the frunk or gear tunnel when removed.Does anyone know yet how the manual cover will open and close?
That is not what the pictures and other videos have shown, definitely water tight. I think you are seeing the curve of the seal as it touches the tailgate, which looks like a gap, but is just a shadow. Watch it on 0.25 speed. You can see the tailgate move a little as the tonneau makes contact. It will not be a problem for leaks (at least not initially). It looks like there is space between the cover and "tailgate". So looks like NOT water or dust proof.
Oh wow, that is worst than I was picturing - I figured that maybe it would be the same cover but you'd have to pull it closed like a shade, or maybe some sort of hand crank.CS told me it was 4 panels that slide into the track that the power cover slides on. I actually like it. I had an Avalanche, which had 3 panels for a slightly larger bed. If these are the same rigidity, they will be great. Less chance of having them frozen in the winter, and at least on the Avalanche they would support your weight so you could stand on them if need be. The Avalanche had each panel latch in separately so you could just remove the rear panel if you needed to haul something large but not the full length of the bed. Of course the Avalanche didn't have a great place to put them. It had a bag to store them in, but that took up bed space and was not nearly as convenient as the gear tunnel.Oh wow, that is worst than I was picturing - I figured that maybe it would be the same cover but you'd have to pull it closed like a shade, or maybe some sort of hand crank.
4 separate panels sounds like more hassle and probably wouldn't end up using them as often. They'll probably most often be in the gear tunnel or in the garage.
Thanks for finding out though, it makes the Adventure package more appealing (which I imagine is the point)
My understanding is it’s exactly like a garage door.Does anyone know what happens if you press the open/close button while it's still opening (or closing) and then close it again. Does it work like a garage door, where it will stop what it's doing and then do the opposite function at the second button press? I expect I will hit the wrong button occasionally (hit the tonneau cover button instead of the tail gate release) and I would hope I could just stop it from opening and then reverse it without having to have it open fully and then close fully.
Also, any info on what happens if it's closing and it hits something in its way? Does it sense an obstruction and stop? Hope so.
I would like to say it can carry a good amount of weight. I’ll see what i can find out from their hub this weekend. It's weight bearing and pretty rigid - I don't know how much weight though. There's at least one video showing two young kids (~6yrs?) on top. And there are lots of videos showing the start/stop/reverse operation.
