A R1T and Hyundai Ioniq 5 were spotted at a charging station next to each other. The Ioniq 5 seems like a much bigger car in person than it does in photos.
I saw both the Hyundai Ioniq 7 & Kia EV9 at the L.A. Auto Show in November. While they are similar in size to the Pallisade/Telluride, they are more crossover focused vs SUV focused (the EV9 looks like at oversized Kia Soul). Neither are going head-to-head against the R1S.Hyundai/Kia have a larger EV in development, a vehicle similar in size to the current Pallisade/Telluride. It may turn out to be a good alternative to the R1S, particularly if it has greater than 300 miles of range. Both Hyundai and Kia have made great strides in vehicle quality in recent years and are committed to BEVs. Given their level of financial resources, automotive manufacturing expertise and perhaps most importantly, their access to leading edge battery technology, Hyundai/Kia could become a Tesla-level EV producer in very short order.
Life will not be easy for Rivian with Hyundai/Kia, GM, Ford and now Stellantis all bringing new electric vehicles to market. This is not to say that Rivian is doomed to failure - the company has many things going for it and is well-positioned for success - but they have huge challenges ahead with little (and constantly decreasing) margin for error.
