Here Meridian covers what to expect from their premium in-car audio in the R1T and R1S

RIVIAN SELECTS MERIDIAN AUDIO
FOR ELECTRIC SUVS AND TRUCKS

British audio pioneer, Meridian Audio, is delighted to announce that it has been chosen by Rivian, the adventurous new electric vehicle maker and technology company, to provide the branded audio system for its electric vehicle platform. This exciting, long-term relationship sees the two companies working together to challenge convention and redefine the in-car audio experience for Rivian’s ground-breaking range of fully electric adventure vehicles.

Meridian has been collaborating with Rivian for more than 12 months and has been focussed on designing, engineering, and tuning high performance audio experiences that will embody Rivian’s ambitions to rethink mobility and shape the way people live, work, and play for the better.

"We were thrilled to have won the opportunity to work with such an exciting new company and to have been selected to engineer the in-car audio experiences for Rivian’s electric vehicles, Meridian is demonstrating itself to be the premium audio brand and technology partner of choice for automotive brands seeking market leading sound solutions. Rivian’s goal to redefine expectations in the automotive industry through the human-centric and nature-conscious application of innovation and technology makes Meridian the perfect partner for them. We are delighted that the renowned Meridian sound experience now extends to the Rivian R1T and R1S electric vehicles, and we are excited about the future with Rivian."

John Buchanan, CEO of Meridian Audio

Sound design was considered very early on in the development of these all-new, American-made vehicles, meaning Meridian has been able to develop a close, collaborative relationship with Rivian, ensuring the audio system is able to play a key role in enhancing the entertainment experience for every occupant within the vehicle.

“Meridian has designed an audio system that provides both the driver and the passengers with a truly immersive listening experience,” adds John, this was achieved with a number of Meridian’s proprietary technologies that have been tailored exclusively for these electric vehicles. All powered by Meridian’s expertise in DSP (Digital Signal Processing), the combination of each technology has been designed to retain absolute precision of the audio signal, resulting in a sound that is natural, three-dimensional, and remarkably easy to listen to.

The innovative technologies that Meridian has tailored for the automotive market and that feature within the Rivian R1T and R1S models include:

MERIDIAN DIGITAL PRECISION
Meridian Digital Precision technology ensures that all the finest details and emotions of the performance are delivered, regardless of the format used

MERIDIAN RE-Q
Meridian RE-Q is a Cabin Correction technology that removes unwanted cabin resonances, preserving the natural rhythm and timing of the performance. Bass becomes smooth, deep and balanced.

MERIDIAN HORIZON
Meridian Horizon is an upmixing technology providing immersive multichannel audio from two channel stereo content, configured for any loudspeaker layout. Providing a truly enveloping and immersive listening experience.

MERIDIAN INTELLI-Q
Meridian Intelli-Q is Data-Driven Equalisation that optimises audio playback within the cabin based on data available from the vehicle such as speed, window state, occupancy and audio source. This ensures all occupants in the vehicle enjoy optimal audio experience at all times.

This is truly exciting and welcomed news, hard to beat the quality of Meridian. As I pointed out to Kyle on Rivian Stories, I hope additional consideration goes into audio sources available as well. Many auto manufacturers put in a great system and then only allow for lossy music sources like, Mp3 or ACC - so disappointing. One would surmise with the Amazon connection that Audible and Amazon Music would be featured as native APPS but I hope Qobuz and Tidal are included as well. With Meridian being the creator of MQA one would think that Tidal would be a good fit. Also while I am plowing my wish list, the ability to connect a large SSD drive full of FLAC or ALAC files for hi-res or CD quality playback would also be a nice addition. As a subscriber to XM and Tidal I would like the choice to continue using them, since I pay for them already and as others might prefer their streaming service as well, so having a choice would be a good thing. Perhaps someone from Rivian will see this and has/will consider this. Can't hardly wait to see my R1S in my driveway.

Welcome to the forum @Craig Metz! Those are some good things to have on your wishlist. Have you reached out to Rivian's customer service team about them? If you did or plan to, keep us posted on what they say.
Do you have any experience with premium audio systems like this in other cars?

The last three Lexus's I have had, had Mark Levinson sound systems which sound great but I suspect that the Meridian Audio System is as good as it gets. Especially in a super quiet EV like a Rivian. My hope is we can feed it with lossless content to maximize the sound quality. I must admit I am an Audiophile and like high quality content. I have not reached out to Rivian on this but was hopeful that they are keeping an eye on the Forum. As a former CMO we had someone in the PR team tracking everything that was said about the company and then distilled it down into highlights and passed the content around to the management team. From what I have experience with Rivian so far, it appears to me they have a top notch marketing team - so I hope they are culling the many great ideas and desires of the customers as a matter of course.

Welcome @Craig Metz! The best way to get a feel for what Meridian has to offer is what they've been able to do with Land Rover.

What type of Lexus models have you owned? Good thing you're getting the R1S because this audio system will sound better in it than the R1T. Any specific things you hope will be included here? x amount of tweeters, subs, etc.?

eHauler, I heard the audio system from Meridian while test driving a Jaguar F-Pace and was impressed. To answer your question, I have owned a LS400, SC430 and still own a GX470 which is going to be sold once I know when the R1S is expected to take its place.

You got me thinking on which one comes with the R1S Adventure package and so I checked, whew the top of the line audio is included with the package. No so with some manufacturers.

Interesting that there’s no mention of the removable Bluetooth speaker.

Wow, looking forward to your take on the Meridian audio system then. I'm sure by now you have an ear for how a premium audio system should sound in a vehicle like the R1T/R1S.

Not necessarily. The SUV has a larger cabin, so the higher speaker count and higher amp output is necessary to get the same levels/effect as the truck.
