You’re going to feel excited, and you’ll transfer that enthusiasm directly to our consumer community.”

UPDATE (9 p.m.) - The president of the Bloomingon-Normal Economic Development Council, Patrick Hoban, released a statement applauding Rivian's plans to build its Customer Engagement Center in Normal.

“It is exciting to see Rivian look beyond manufacturing for their operations in Normal. This is a testament to the quality of talent in Bloomington-Normal, Hoban said.

"Even though the new jobs and investment are above and beyond those outlined in Rivian’s initial development agreement, they have not asked for additional incentives," Hoban also said.

However, the new facility will be located in the enterprise zone, so Rivian won't have to pay sales taxes on building materials.

NORMAL (WEEK) -- Electric-vehicle manufacturer Rivian says it will be locating its Customer Engagement Center at its Normal campus, which will bring about 40 additional jobs to the area.

Rivian made the announcement Tuesday, saying the center is part of the company's $750 million investment at its Norma-based facilities.

According to the company, the center will allow the customer engagement employees to train in and around the vehicles.

“We’re thrilled to locate the Customer Engagement Center in Normal,” said Tony Caravano, Rivian’s senior director of retail and customer experience, in a statement. “Imagine being in contact with our customers every day while having the ability to watch our teams build their vehicles. You’re going to feel excited, and you’ll transfer that enthusiasm directly to our consumer community.”

“We know there is a deep well of customer service expertise in the Bloomington-Normal area and we can’t wait to center a portion of that talent around our plant operation,” Caravano added.
