@R1TVT - I was going to suggest a couple of ideas, but they were all absurdly expensive like the "van locker." The REI seems a little long; the Leitner boxes, which are nice in that they open on the side, were too narrow for the OP's preferred specs. The market has a gap!

I am curious about how that REI box mounts... it looks handy to carry, but a PITA if you have to then empty it to secure it to your crossbars.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that my 196cm x-c skis just clear the bed of my new-to-me R1T at an angle. I'm coming out of a LR Defender that uses the same Thule feet, but naturally the bars are 3" short... spending another $400.00 for the correct fit kit and crossbars isn't favored right now.
