Does anyone know what the size is for the compact spare tire in the R1S? If I upgrade to the 22” tires but the compact spare tire is 19” this would not be ideal.
Do offroad people use spare tires? Wouldn't they bring tubes or patch kits?Come on, its a $75K vehicle. Would have been nice if they threw in a $600 spare, especially considering its an "adventure" vehicle.
And $60 for the air compressor accessories? Don't nickel and dime us Rivian. If they charge for a second key FOB I might have to cancel my reservation.
Thanks. Then, do offroaders bring a full size spare or are they likely to bring donut. Assuming full size spare but I don't know. Also assuming "compact spare tire" = $600 donut, which I wouldn't want anyway. Most will bring a patch kit but patches can't fix every problem and if you only have 3 tires you aren't going anywhere. In certain areas or on certain adventures that spare can literally save your life.
It goes under the rear deck in the R1SBtw... where does/will the donut live on the R1S? Frunk?
My understanding is they are full size just inflatable. That should be fine for towing.Offroading is not the only time you want want a full-size spare - it's a must-have if you're towing.
Speaking as someone who has done some off-roading over the years the answer to your question is most definitely YES!!! A fullsize spare is something you want if you're doing any off-roading. I have taken our Range Rover Sport off-road and got a flat about 9 miles in where we were camping for the night and was kind of taken aback to find that it comes with a compact spare. Of course I used it and drove 100+ miles back home on it too because I could not find a place that had the right size tire in the nearest town. We took the truck to Land Rover the next day and had them put a new tire on it (these tires are not cheap either).Do offroad people use spare tires? Wouldn't they bring tubes or patch kits?
I'm sure the air compressor accessories will be coming to your favorite online store at a discount. Good thing we have free markets.
Not to mention the insane range reduction you'd get on the highway with a roof rack and tire up top.Really disappointed there isn't space for a full size spare in the R1S. Rivian even shows in testing photos of a giant spare on a roof rack. https://cdn.motor1.com/images/mgl/1m4J3/s1/4x3/rivian-r1s-steep-climb.webp
So are we supposed to do all trips with a roof rack setup like this? Seems like a stupid solution for a vehicle boasting its off road utility.
