Just spoke with someone at Rivian and thought some of you might like this info.

Sliding platform for gear tunnel:
1) Right now the configurator shows the platform has one handle and one stand and is usable on the passenger's side. I brought up that many times when I am working I am by myself and would like the option for it to be installed or workable from the driver's side. Also if you are hiking parking may be on one side of the road or the other and blocked without access.
2). She will get back to me about the ability to change the side as needed or at least installed with drivers vs passengers preference. She thought it might be accessible and usable from either side, but it looks to me like there is a backstop that would prevent moving it both directions. I will update when she contacts me back.

All weather matts:
1). If you order the all weather matts you will still receive the standard carpet matts so that you can interchange if you desire

Ocean coast interior:
1). I have a concern that dye from denim blue jeans that are damp from sweat may leach into the fabric, as I have been told happens with the smooth vegan leather that is in Teslas. She told me that ocean coast has an underlying grey fleck/color and is more resistant to staining and so far no one has reported blue seats with the ocean coast material.
2). I asked about reflections on the two screens in OC vs Black interior and she didn't have any info if it was any worse as both will have the panoramic roof in the LE.

Tow hooks without skid plate:
1). I asked a question about being able to order just the tow hooks as I have need of those but not so much the skid plate. (please don't flame me, just wanted to see if that might be a possibility as I have a high need for tow hooks on my hobby farm.). She said they are an integrated package and MAY be a possibility in the future but nothing in the near term.

Sign up for Aug events:
1). Since I live 2.5 hours away from any major metro, I won't be able to participate in the hand's on personal truck part so I asked about the ones planned in the major US cities and expressed my concern as an LE holder I would like to have a little time to ride in one and just see the colors/interiors. My concern that these events could be so packed that I would wait for hours in line to spend 5min or less seeing one.
2). She reconfirmed that these will not be open to the general public and that they will prioritize LE preorders first.

Hopefully this is helpful for those of you with some of these questions this morning.

That is great for LE preorders, but what about those of us who can wait for the truck but still would like to participate on a on-site demo. There was no way to reserve a spot.

Sorry, to be clear I can’t reserve. She said that COVID precautions will determine the amount of people per event and that they will give LE preorders first chance if they sign up early because they are buying first. No indication that other preorders won’t be there. Since we don’t know how many of us have reserved, we don’t know how much the demand is, just that preorders will receive priority. I just wanted to make sure I would see them and not in a “car show” event that had 5,000 people. Again, I can’t reserve a spot either. She said more information and chance to sign up wouldn’t be till Aug. Hope this helps, sorry for being unclear.

I hope Rivian opens the events up to anybody who has ponied up the $1000 deposit. That should cut down on the crowds and be more efficient for Rivian to satisfy all reservation holders at once.

I agree unless there are 15,000 reservations and they all want to attend one event on one day. I told them I’m willing to travel, I just want a chance to finalize before I buy and hope they will continue to have these routinely so if you aren’t buying until later 2022 there will regular events before they have to make final decisions as well.

On Rivian's website they also talk about how the test drive program will prioritize pre-order holders first, for both the events and the at home test drives

Due to anticipated demand, we will prioritize preorder holders for our drive experiences. Look for more details in advance, including exact launch dates, our Covid-19 protocols and how we’ll handle reservations.

Received the information from rivian today. Apparently the slide for the gear tunnel can only extend from the passenger side. You cannot switch it to the driver side. Hope this helps anyone trying to make a decision on this $1500 purchase.

You know it makes sense, actually, that it only slides on the passenger side.

For anyone who goes camping with an RV, the "curb side or camp side" (i.e. passenger side) of the RV is generally where a lot of kitchens or larger storage bays are located for all the stuff you need to camp. External TVs are mounted on the passenger side too. "Street side" (i.e. driver side) on RVs tend to be for items not used a lot for camping (generator, fresh water tank fills, the "wet bay" which consists the sewer and fresh water hook ups. So in following that logic, I see why they opted to have the tray only slide to the "camp side" of the truck.

Thanks for that perspective. I think they did make this sliding area primarily in mind for the camp stove. I have been thinking about some sort of slide in the gear tunnel from the day I reserved the pick up and was just hoping that we could opt to have it slide from the driver side. Mainly I would use it for small buckets that I would put tools in or when we are doing things at the lake, going to the gym, so I could put my sweaty clothes in there :). All of that I would want to access from the driver side. It’s still not a dealbreaker for me, but I am trying to look and see if somebody might develop a third-party slide between now and whenever I get my pick up.

I'm sure there will be aftermarket company to come out with one you like.
I think so too. Thanks for the comment. The main reason I was interested in this is that it has direct electrical connection on the sliding platform which I think could be very useful. I’m not sure the third-party aftermarket company will. They actually contacted me a little bit later and stated that there is no option to switch it over and I think the reason is because of where they make the connections to electrify the sliding platform.

Good point on the electrical, plus installing in that small are may be a problem.

There is likely a safety issue with having it slide out the driver side in the case where you pull off to the side of the road and park. You would want it to be away from the road and traffic. Same issue if parallel parked.
