That's new- unless you live too far out for service to install the tire later. Because it's not just a ship it to you and you throw it in the hole affair (well, really it is, but they have to "install it"). They show 0.8 hours for install time on my service ticket. That's gotta include .75 hours for lunch....

That sounds like BS to me. My truck was delivered without the spare and they are planning on delivering it in the future. The tire has been ordered and will be delivered to the Seattle service center. At that point they will schedule a mobile tech to come to Montana for install. I've asked them to ship directly to me but so apparently that's not an option...

I live less than half an hour from a service center, so no excuse Re: distance.

I NEED a spare. I configured so long ago I don't remember a spare being optional. With some cars a full size spare is an option and the "get you home donut" is standard. I guess a sealant kit is common with some new cars nowadays. I have never seen a truck not come with a spare though.

The biggest issue right now is if you damage a wheel it could be a while before you get another one. And it doesn't have to be offroad. My wife and I were coming home from Vegas a few years ago. Something fell off a truck ahead of us. Bang bang - two driver side flats and two cracked wheels on her new Range Rover. Three other cars suffered worse damage. The ironic thing is the Ram parked at home carried two full size spares.

I have put a quality plug kit in my R1T. I won't use fix a flat unless I have to. It is a temp fix and can be bad for the pressure sensors. I average a plug or two every year between our vehicles. I have the two plug kits linked below. There are cheaper kits out there, but I don't know how good the tools are. Also the AAA card comes in handy if you are on the road.

The spare tire issue was not known until my guide confirmed configuration over the phone and the first thing he asked is if I wanted to add the full size spare. It wasn't originally in the online configurator if I recall correctly - otherwise I would have had it in there as I am pretty anal about that myself.

I have 22" tires and my spare came with the truck on April 4th...maybe there are more 22s than other sizes. I got the 22 because of 21 being a unique size and have had the experience before of having to wait for an unusual tire to come after a flat...22's, there are options out there.

In speaking with my guide today, my truck wont have the spare delivered with it on the 27th. For me this is NO GOOD, as I drive 135miles daily roundtrip and I always carry a spare! AAA is garbage and I have no time to waste waiting on some idiot.

If the spare that I paid for is really weeks or months away I will be looking into an alternative solution.

Our Rivian wheels are spec'd like this:
20" Wheels Specs:

Weight: 88 lbs (with the AT's tires mounted)
Size: 20x8.5,
Offset: +48mm
Bolt pattern: 5 x 5.5
Construction: 20" wheels are forged. 21" and 22" wheels are all cast.

Dodge 02' - 09' 1500 RAM uses a 20" steel as a spare with the same bolt pattern! I just need to test fit the offset, and centerbore for fit.
Did you ever get to test this?

In order to buy a spare after delivery, four of us could buy a set and divide the cost by 4. Alternatively, someone could buy a set and sell the other 3 individually on eBay for $1,200 and make a small profit.
I'm in for one 20" A/T wheel if others want to go in on a set with me!

Yes sir, been rolling on them for almost 2weeks now I think... So far really good in comfort, noise, fit, and overall performance. Typical range reduction as I expected, averaging 2.3ish mile/kwh which is in line with other AT users. Total setup cost me about $1650 all in so now I have 5 wheel/tires in 21" roads and 20" AT's!

That’s awesome! Can you tell us more about the wheels, where you got them?

DISCLAIMER, Proceed at your own risk!
These are not OEM and I am willing to test such a setup on my own truck.
If you are not comfortable with such, you should not do so, and I recommend you stick with what RIVIAN only offers.

I wanted a simple, cost effective off road wheel and tire setup that if it got damaged wheeling I wouldn't care.

5pcs. - Dodge RAM 1500 wheels (Part #2363) Other styles do not offer proper brake caliper clearance!!! Proceed with caution! I found these in fantastic shape as the previous owner removed them after a few months of ownership for other aftermarket wheels, win for me!
4pcs. - Hub centric rings to fit the Rivian centerbore to the RAM wheels, Wheel Connect via Amazon (Part#HR7780-6410A)
5pcs. - TPMS sensors from www.TPMS247.com (Beta tested and approved!)

I am running Pirelli Scorpion AT's in 275/60R20 to match the overall diameter of my 21" roads at 33" where as the 275/65R20 from Rivian are 34".

Mount, Balance, Bolt on and go, speedo is spot on and I am very pleased so far with almost 1000miles on the setup. For more information please visit https://s00n.rivianstories.com/posts/27424783?utm_source=manual

Hi All,

I just picked up my truck today. No spare tire...
I have the 21" wheels and I am proposing to sell 3 of them, going to keep one for myself, one at a time as I am going to the 20" Offroad set up. I am in Southern California and will deliver them to anyone w has a truck and wants a full size spare right now. I do not know if the 21" with the standard AT tires will fit in the tire well. I am in the process of ordering the new set, when delivered I will remove these and attempt to put one in the rear tire well. Wish me luck!!

I don't think you want to do that. The tire diameter on the 20" is different from 21". I may be wrong but you probably should match the spare with your 20".

20" AT's are 34" overall dia. and the 21's & 22's are 33" in overall dia. I however run a 20" AT setup that is 33" to match my 21" roads as the truck was delivered, best of both worlds, and no speedo issues. More info here: https://s00n.rivianstories.com/posts/27424783?utm_source=manual

That's really good to know. Thanks. This would be nice for me too since I typically want to run around in my 21" road tires but would like to have the option to have meatier tires for other occasions.

I've only recently made a reservation so I don't have access to the "configurator" but on the website "visualizer" it used to have the spare tire there available to pick as an option. Seems its taken off of there now. Can you still pick that in your build configurator later or is it not an option there anymore either?
