It always amazes me by how much people fall for the Elon hype machine. This and the Cybertruck are probably the best examples of how it all unfolds.

I assume the wording is such that nothing will stick. But anyone who thought FSD would actually do all Tesla claimed in several years was way too naive. I tried arguing with folks back when it was offered, but so many people were so adamant that it will be here in a year or so...5+ years later, not much has changed. lol

FSD, while being monitored by a live and awake human, is an awesome feature. While it doesn't mimic human speeds, it's quite impressive nonetheless.

Did you get a DeLorean up to 88MPH to experience this? If FSD actually existed today. it would be quite the news. If you’re referring to the run of the mill driver assistance, well…meh.

General consensus in auto industry is that L4/L5 (and probably even L3) needs full range of sensors: cameras, ultrasonics, radar and lidar. High-end cars like Lucid already have all of them. True robotaxis (ie already operating on real roads with no driver at all) like Cruise as well. Tesla had radar but took it out, and now is dropping ultrasonics, claiming it can all be done with cameras. (Though interestingly, they just filed a patent for a high-resolution radar). The rationale that humans only need eyes is specious - humans are horrible drivers. If all you want to do is create a fleet of self-driving cars that are no better than humans, then you're aiming too low. Tesla's actually admitted to CA DMV that their current hardware will never go beyond L2. So yeah, there's a case to be made. Whether any Tesla fans care is TBD.

IMHO, FSD won’t be possible without Smart Roads and vehicles being able to talk to each other.

Welp, I guess Chevy is going to be next to claim self-driving (if you read or watch the way they are promoting the new EV Denali)...
To be fair, there is a LOT of small print at the bottom of all of their concept videos and it ain't coming until 2024...

If you've never done the navigate on city streets in FSD Beta, you should. While it's not FULL self driving, it is amazing to see what that vehicle can do. Run of the mill it is not...
