New issue with cruise, if you hit your wipers to clean bugs, it locks wipers on auto and starts smearing the windshield adding to woe of poor washers.

Plus to tow 5k# requires a $100k Model X with added crazy doors vs. $75k Rivian that can tow 7,5k# and Rivian qualifies for OR and US rebates for $10k off.

WOW. We have both in the family. A model Y and an R1T.

-Phantom braking on both, but the Rivian is worse at this point. Hoping it will get better.

-I find little difference in the lane keep alert from other makes, but admittedly I usually do not have it on.

Your post is a wealth in mis-information. Having both vehicles to drive on a regular basis, I can tell you that as anybody that is paying attention would guess, Tesla is farther ahead of Rivina when it comes to software and bug fixes. Does this reflect poorly on Rivian? No, not at all, but man you are sure pounding the Tesla-hater drum pretty hard lol!

Prices in the auto industry are going down. There's no reason to suppose this is where they stop going down.
I think anyone who didn't buy one in 21Q4 is waiting for the new model features and updates for '23 (Tesla has a history of introducing new features early in each calendar year, despite their claims to have no model years … their service documents clearly define model year groups.)
I think the tax incentive applies to a narrow segment of people with relatively low income in order to qualify and willing to spend a disproportionately high percentage of their income on a car that was appealing in part because it was in short supply. Now there's ample supply and the cachet of having a Tesla has lost its excitement factor.
p.s. me, I'm waiting to see if the Cybertruck shows up with 1MV, 1MW and functions as a household backup generator. Fugly as it is, it'll be going around the back of the house and sitting there plugged into a solar array, "paying for itself" as "free" power and time-shifting to avoid paying for electricity from the grid. In theory. : )

Has Tesla added the Blind Spot Alert in the mirror or are you talking about the abstract video that pops up in the down and to the right screen? The graphic doesn't work either as they are in your blind spot by the time it sees them. There is collision alert where when you actually start to steer into an occupied lane but no alert.

There is no rear cross traffic alert. Tesla is blind in the back.

If you want both, I added them via a Rydeen Systems setup by Mobile West.

Lane keep alert (not Lane Keeping of AutoSteer, basic drifting over the line alert. Works 50% at best. When I first got the car I reported the problem to Tesla. Mobil Tech came out and we drove down Marine Drive to test and it would not alert or tug wheel. Hmm....tech calls Fremont as we drive. Fremont says it is geo fenced for some roads which made no sense but there we were merrily crossing over center line or curb line. Overall, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Appears issue is related to Full Self Driving software.

The Teslas been a reliable car, 100k, and just the regular mechanical issues they cover (front suspenion replaced, leaking trunk harness, seat wiring harness) but the flaws on ADAS are bad and documented.

Its just what you're use to.

Old technology is to have an indicator on the side mirror. Tesla uses both video and vehicle road positioning on the screen. Video can be moved on the screen. Mine is positioned on the upper right side of the vehicle status screen so that it's easily viewable. Tesla autopilot can also keep you from changing lane, if you let it, even without the paid FSD version.

I don't need to see rear cross traffic. It's behind me. If you're worried about being rear ended, no amount of sensors or warnings will stop that. Perhaps old fashion rear view mirror can do more to help the driver take an action to avoid the vehicle from behind...

Bad design by every metric.

Tesla's are old tech cars at this point as Musk refuses to let the cars evolve. You see it at every level but the poor ADAS make the car less safe.

It seems that you have a personal distaste for Elon. Tesla is more than just Elon. And, if you don't like what they have and do, why do you own a Tesla? Get rid of it. Go buy something else. Save yourself of misery.

If you think your experience or an option is saving someone from buying a Tesla because you've deemed unsafe, even though IIHS gives top safety ratings, then you're public service is acknowledged - thank you.

OP is about the lower pricing on Tesla and I believe what you're saying is that you wont buy one at any price. But you own one... Got it.

It's back down to the price when I bought my Model Y in August 2020. I would buy another Tesla if Musk would stop being a public asshat. Right now I'm giving my money to Rivian instead.

I ordered a Model Y, Long Range, 7 Seater, Blue, White/Black with a tow hitch for my wife (she has wanted one), the moment I was aware of the price drop. This was not an inventory purchase. Ordered on Friday, VIN assigned on Sunday. Wife test drove yesterday to reconfirm this is the car she wants, she loves it. Delivery this Friday. The $7500 incentive absolutely works for me. For us, this is effectively a $20K+ reduction from one week to the next, I'm in. She drove the KIA and our neighbor has one, so that was an absolute no-go for her.

This is putting massive pressure on all manufacturers.......

Really? Can you elaborate why you think EV6 is better choice over the Y??

I guess opinions really vary. Around my area, the AWD EV6 is at least $60k. I test drove it and it was pretty nice, but I would not pay more to get an EV6 over the Model Y

I own EVs made by Tesla, Rivian and GM. I also own a vehicle built by Ford. The Tesla has 100k miles on it, and is the best/most reliable vehicle I have ever owned, and I am an old guy.

My personal bias is to "Buy American", which means I personally would not consider the Kia when I can buy products made here in the States; but from what I have seen, they are an appealing car.

We have three Teslas: Model S, Model X and the Model 3. Love them all. They are great cars. My S is 10 years old and it drives as great today as it did when I first picked it up - even better with various software updates. If you want to take off on long distance trips, Tesla’s biggest advantage is their supercharger network. It is years ahead of all the other options.

i also have the R1S and live that car and I expect it to get better as updated are released.

That said, they are very different cars for different purposes. If all you intend to do is drive around the city and highways, it’s hard to beat Tesla and the price reductions make them even more compelling. I wanted the Rivian for camping and trips to the mountains. The extra ground clearance is helpful and is the extra room (and I don’t like the falcon doors on our X which could be considered somewhat comparable size). I also can’t put a roof rack in the X. Thus, depending on your wants or needs, Rivian could b a much better vehicle for you.
