Towing with a Tesla Model X

The Fast Lane Car tested what it's to tow 4,460 pounds in a Tesla Model X long range. Even though the Model X has a lower towing capacity compared to the R1S (4,960 vs. 7716 pounds), it gives an interesting look at what could happen when towing with an EV.

For their test they used about 3 times more battery power with the trailer than without it and nearly killed the battery in the process. Without the trailer they averaged 115.4 MPGe, and with the trailer they averaged only 42.28 MPGe.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the R1S and R1T doing tests like this to see how they stack up.

Rivian's towing targets are similar to an F-150 so set you expectations in line with that.
I don't know how accurate this is going to be in a real world test, but Rivian says that towing the max 11,000 pounds with a R1T would reduce its range by about 50%.

Still not bad for the average owner and growing charging network to combat the range loss.
TFL posted a follow up video by taking the Model X on the "Ike Gauntlet" in Colorado, towing the same trailer as the first video. The Tesla used 17% battery and 58 miles of range to go 8 miles. 7 times more battery power than normal. Aside from the range it seemed to do a solid job towing the trailer up the mountain.

Lucky for Tesla, a pickup is coming out soon enough, freeing them from improving MX towing ability.

That pickup couldn't come faster for them, we still don't even know when it will be unveiled.

Like the Model Y, it will probably be randomly shown off, catching everyone by surprise.

One thing I know for sure is...

It WILL be a key money maker for them, thus, launch ASAP
