Toyota, along with Lexus has revealed what their EV plans are and it include a Tacoma-sized electric pickup truck, a 4-door successor to the FJ Cruiser, and a Lexus full-size SUV.
Big time! Looks like it could be a lot of fun to drive. That electric FJ is pretty sweet looking![]()
Still holding out hope for a Lexus SUV EV with specs anywhere close to the R1S especially if I have to wait past 2023 for my R1SAs a historically loyal Lexus buyer, they are way too late to the EV party. It is ironic that they mentioned the breakthrough of the Prius as being first to market which is true and Toyota will end up being last to the party on the EV side. I find it ironic that Toyota did a next gen ICE-based Land Cruiser / Lexus LX and it coming out pretty close to the time as the R1S.
Question is how soon to market can they get these given their reluctance to produce EV's. Seems like someone hit the panic button at Toyota with so many legacy companies releasing EV'sIf that BEV Tacoma can haul around 1600 lbs, tow around 9500 lbs and come with at least 400 miles of range then I'll be picking it over the R1T!
All the legacy manufacturers are hitting the panic button! With Tesla stock skyrocketing and GM/Ford, etc... just plodding along they may have finally been waken from their long slumber to see the path forward is electric not 500hp ICE vehicles.Seems like someone hit the panic button at Toyota with so many legacy companies releasing EV's
I've watched about half of this vide so far and if the content is true it seems they have been quietly working on EV infrastructure for a very long time.. Also these are a lot of prototypes to come up with on short notice. It is irritating how slow they seem to be tot eh game but this is an eye opener. Staying tuned for sure!DON'T CARE AT ALL ABOUT THAT COMPANY'S STUFF, THE ONE WHICH HAS BEEN A DENIER AND REFUSED TO DEVELOP AN EV UNTIL IT WAS FORCED TO DO SO.
They are not that late and the case for plug in hybrids is solidAs a historically loyal Lexus buyer, they are way too late to the EV party. Well, since I have yet to place an order for an R1T, I'm willing to bet that at this point I would receive a new Tacoma EV sooner. Another plus for me is the existing Toyota dealership service department infrastructure. So, I'll continue to hold off on ordering an R1T and eagerly await the specs on the Tacoma EV as well as other EV trucks that are being proposed. I imagine some folks will feel the same way while many others will not. And, that's OK.Question is how soon to market can they get these given their reluctance to produce EV's.
I'm hedging with my refundable $1,000 deposit for the R1S. Let's see how the next 12-24 months go. Another point made in the video that I think many are not considering is Toyota is a global company. EV infrastructure is still unreliable in many parts of North America. Only some parts of Europe seem to be ahead of everyone so if you consider the rest of the world is way behind, Toyota's strategy doesn't seem too bad.Well, since I have yet to place an order for an R1T, I'm willing to bet that at this point I would receive a new Tacoma EV sooner. Exactly! Too often we North Americans take a myopic view of vehicle manufacturers, especially when it comes to Toyota. While the US is a huge market, it isn't always the end all and be all.I'm hedging with my refundable $1,000 deposit for the R1S. Let's see how the next 12-24 months go. Land cruiser is the classic example of this. It dominates many markets in the world. Dismal sales in the US so we aren’t getting the 300 series.Exactly!
