I've had the R1S for about a month and I've already suffered w/maps on several occasions. It doesn't show traffic or road closures and consequently it provides routes that lack critical information. Which means Waze or google maps running on the phone in the background and dividing our driving attention to yet another set of maps.

Speaking as someone who has some experience with maps.... It is my opinion that creating a new map system is absurd. It takes about a decade of crowd sourcing to develop map systems that would be on par with Google. Even if Rivian had a strategic desire to do so, Rivian can not possibly dedicate the resources that it takes to develop such a solution and they will be noticeably behind for about 5 years. So I'm puzzled by this direction.

Control of your data and arrogance plain and simple it seems to me.
