I have 13,500 miles on my R1T. At 2000 miles the steering rack came loose and I had a ‘broken sub frame” on the right front. Both were covered under warrantee requiring shipping of the vehicle and 10 days absence. At 10,500 miles I installed snow tires and was told at the tire shop that they could not remount the right front tire in the spring, as it is worn to 4/32s. Left front is 6/32s, rears are 9/32S. At delivery my question on maintenance was meet with “nothing but replace the tires when there wear out”.

Rivian’s response to my asymmetric tire wear has been that I “missed The recommended tire rotation that was to be done at 5000 miles,” even though their own service center recommends 9000 miles, and I was not told this when I ask about maintenance at delivery. The Bellvue Service center’s position is that this is “normal wear”. If both front tires were worn to 4/32s I could accept this. The facts that the wear was asymmetric (right front) and that the wear on my Blizzacks after 3000 miles is symmetric, and that I had a broken subframe at 2000 miles on the same corner, makes their conclusion that this is “normal wear” illogical. I refuse to accept this illogical conclusion.

I have been working with Rivain since November. They cycle service advisers to communicate with me, very few who follow through on promises to return calls. I have suggested I be allowed to purchase a new set of tires and wheels (I need a set of wheels for my snow tires) and that they credit me for the one bad tire. I could then cycle the 3 tires I have into a rotation and avoid throwing them into the landfill.

The Rivian approach has been to wear me out, in the hope I will just go away. I need a logical explanation for my asymmetric tire wear. If I don’t get a logical explaination- I am like a sticky booger….they can shake all they want, but I’ll still be here.

It’s been over 3 months. I require an explanation that makes sense, or a credit for a tire. They have spent more man hours avoiding responsibility for this problem than the cost of giving me credit for a tire. I have given Rivian a simple solution to this problem. Come on Rivian, you have a disconnect between a really great product, and really horrible service!
The Bellevue Rivian SC is either incompetent or liars, as they falsely indicated in their records that “I refused tire rotation”…. The truth is - and they know this - is that I called multiple times pleading for tire rotation along with my alignment and they repeatedly refused saying they did not have the capacity.

from what I can see in the forums, most irregular tire wear is on the front tires. Mine are on the two rear tires, especially the RR with cords showing now. I’ve been calling and calling asking for an appointment- in fact, I even offered to take it to their SF SC or anywhere in the state of CA since we’re going to be there for a road trip anyways. I was finally able to get an appointment at their Eastvale CA location and they’re telling me “I should’ve just driven into a SC and demanded a service call.”

The uneven wear was clearly caused by Bellevue SC failed alignment, and in any case having only drive. 1,500 since alignment wouldn’t why have said anything or shouldn’t they have if IF something was wrong?

car dealerships have stretched the truth or hidden a falsity but this is a first - to be called an outright liar. That I refused a tire rotation when BSC offered it to me…

totally dissatisfied and disappointed with rivian.

Did you finally get credit?

I think this subject was over talked many times - right now - you do not have any option, so either pay 2k+ for Pirelli or move to 20" wheels and tires. There are rumors that Michelin will sell 21" tires for Rivian. Nobody knows this for sure.

Have had track cars with soft compound and run flat. More money than any of tires for any size used by Rivian. But that’s the cost of that activity and running a car like that. Read this whole thread just now and I’m surprised folks didn’t go in with eyes wide open and are retroactively complaining.

I choose a 20”all terrain knowing I wouldn’t get the range of other choices. The tires would be slightly noisier. And I would need to replace them more often than with other brands of off-road vehicles. I also knew I wouldn’t need the capabilities of the off road R1T except on fairly rare occasions ( fishing off the beach, doing double track etc.). But when you need those capabilities you need them. However for my use pattern 50nm of range isn’t a meaningful restriction and I save well over $2k per year running a EV than a comparable ICE. Make my own electricity. Don’t need the mods I would do on a ICE to get the same level of performanc. Have an off-road vehicle whose street performance is better than 90% of what’s on the road. Folks with all due respect-get over yourselves. You’re in a $80-100k multipurpose vehicle. Even if you were replacing her shoes annually you it’s a nominal expense in the big picture. Yes the 21” may not be the best choice for many and you lose some performance c/w 22”s. Yes the ATs are possibly less likely to have side wall damage and give you more options of where you can go. But each of three are great vehicles. At 20k service life you’ll likely reshoeing every year and a half worse case. So what.

I confirmed with Tire Rack that the Michelins will be available in less than 30 days. It is a much better tire in every respect--especially winter driving.
